This page gives you information about proposing an activity for the British Science Festival Young People´s Programme in Newcastle 2013. The British Science Festival´s return to Newcastle is an amazing opportunity to showcase what you do to literally thousands of people of all ages. Taking part in the Young People´s Programme gives you the opportunity to engage thousands of students with the essence of science (in its broadest sense).

When are the deadlines?

If you require funding / payment for delivering your activity, you must submit your proposal by 5pm on 7th December 2012

If you do not require funding / payment, you have until 5pm on 8th February 2013.

In both cases, your form should be emailed to festivalypp@coryluslearning.com

How are proposals considered?

Sub-groups of the Young People´s Programme Advisory Committee will consider proposals by key stage on a regular basis. Proposals covering more than one key stage will be considered by all relevant sub-groups. The first meetings are likely to take place in November. As we are starting to consider proposals before the final deadline, we shall be cautious in accepting proposals to allow equal opportunity to those organisations / individuals who make their proposals close to the deadline. We may therefore not accept proposals straight away, but may tell you your proposal remains under consideration. This is not a reflection on the quality of your proposal, it may well reflect our need to ensure even coverage across all areas of science, or our wish to consider your proposal alongside others in the same area of science which we know other organisations are preparing.

The criteria we shall use in considering all proposals are:

Will the proposed activity and its presenters be inspirational?
Will it provide experiences students are unlikely to get at school?
Will the activity and content be accessible to all students in the relevant age group?
Will it offer an insight into the nature of science and its methods?
Will it provide teachers with starting points and foundations they can use as a basis for classroom teaching and/or STEM Club activity?
Will it illustrate the role of people in advancing science, and the varied roles people take in science?
Will it demonstrate the societal importance of science (in the past, present or future)?
Will it enrich the National Curriculum and/or qualification specifications where appropriate?
